I’m left-handed, and I do not own any true left-handed models. Here’s who sells one today.
A left-hand version is the same knife built as a mirror image, so the lock releases under a left thumb and the clip moves to the other side.

They solve the same problem two ways. A knife for either hand is one knife whose lock sits across the handle or in the spine: a crossbar, a button or a back lock. It releases the same way whichever hand holds it.
The difference shows up when you close it. On a right-hand liner lock or frame lock, the lock bar sits under a left hand’s fingers, so every close is a reach-around. This is how I put it on my lefty page:
“Knives that have hard-to-reach closing mechanisms for lefties, but technically work, are annoying, because it’s so close to being perfect, and yet so far.”
A left-hand version fixes that knife. A knife for either hand never has the problem.
By brand, the 13 in my drawer: CIVIVI 4 of 6, Demko 2 of 2, Kizer 5 of 10 and Spyderco 2 of 7. One of the 13, the CIVIVI Quick Snip, is a neck knife with no clip and no lock. Which ones, and why, is in the left-handed pocket knife table. Why the lock matters as much as the clip is the lefty tax.
Counted from each maker’s own site on Sep 24, 2026: a folding knife sold as a left-hand version of a model. A left-side clip, a spare handle scale or a sheath doesn’t count, and a dealer listing appears only where the maker had none to order.
Not on the list: fixed blades and sheaths (a Microtech and Bastinelli Iconic karambit, for one) and one-person custom shops. Also left off: DPX Gear (left-hand clips for the HEAT/F, no left-hand knife today) and Olamic Cutlery (its store couldn’t be searched the same way).
